My dad came over for my birthday last night and it went surprisingly well. He gave me a card with some moolah. He was going to bring a small cake or cupcakes but instead he brought a box of honey buns (not the Little Debbie brand). I don't like them but it was the thought that counts. He wanted me to keep em' but I sent them back with him. I also gave him the almond milk that I bought for the occasion. (He's lactose intolerant.) If any of you out there are lactose or gluten intolerant, almond milk isn't a bad substitute. You will taste almonds but you also get that milk texture.
I saw my mom today for Mother's Day and she really appreciated the gift I made for her. She even made a spot for it on a shelf in the living room. Awww. We spent a few hours just chatting and hanging out and it was really nice. While I was there, she gave me a birthday card and a Dahlietta Louise Dahlia (below). Purty, huh? The card she gave me is on the right and the card I got from my dad is on the left. Her and I are also going to go horseback riding for the other part of my bday gift. I haven't done that in forever and I'm definitely looking forward to it.
So the birthday time with each of my parents was good. Not the nightmare that family time can be sometimes. : )

that's awesome! i am really happy to hear all this good news from you! things are looking up! i was hoping you'd get your package in time... :( i suck.
Glad to hear it went well. :) Almond Milk sounds good-and I'm not lactose intolerant. (I use Almond flavor in steamers & coffee often.)
Very nice gifts too. The flower is lovely. Horseback riding, hm? That's cool that you've done it before. I've never done it. (I would be afraid the horse wouldn't like me since I have no clue what to do!)
BTW: be expecting something in your mailbox sometime next week.
Take care.~
Diane - Yep, it appears that my luck is changin'. You so DON'T suck! You didn't even know it was my birthday until just a few days ago. I just think it's awesome that you're sending something!
Eve - I bet you'd like the almond milk. It's not a sweet almond flavor but more the earthy flavor of the nut. You can get it in chocolate and vanilla too. The kind I bought was original. I bet you could make some sweet shakes with it. Yum!
I've gone horseback riding a few times. I was big into horses growing up and we lived pretty close to a stable. It's a lot of fun!
Aww thanks for sending me something!
You and Diane are too sweet for sending me stuff!
Ah, see what happens when I am out of the loop for a week!! I did not know it was your birthday. :( Happy Birthday!
I am going to have to go find something special for the Davis Graveyard collection and send it your way :)
BTW - love the Dahlia - they are one of my favorite flowers. I have about 6 different varieties in my yard right now.
Frog Queen - Ooh! You know how I love getting stuff from the Davis Graveyard. : )
I love how complex Dahlia's look. Nature's beauty astounds me every day.
And happy birthday! Sounds like it was a good one.
And I really like almond milk!
Riverwolf - Thanks! I gotta' say that while almond milk is a good substitute for milk, I'd still prefer the real deal.
